Berryland Foodshed Development Day

Please join the 5% Local Coalition for the December Foodshed Development Day on Saturday, December 8th from 9:30 to 12:30 as we work together to build a local food system. We will be continuing work on Berryland on the Richmond Greenway between 6th and 7th Streets near Lincoln Elementary in the Iron Triangle. The Richmond Greenway parallels Ohio and Chanslor Streets. Hard rain cancels, but so far the forecast looks good.
This Saturday, we are pleased to announce a special guest—Chef Dick Guthrie (my dad) who will be cooking up his famous Urban Farmer’s Omlette made with West County eggs (mostly). He’ll be serving them up hot at the conclusion of the work day. Please call or email me if you plan to attend so we can bring the right number of eggs.
WORK PLAN:
On Saturday, we hope to build and fill 3 new planters. We will also plant more berry bushes in the existing planters. We will work from 9:30 to about 12:00 and then break for brunch. If we finish early at Berryland or have enough volunteers, there is also plenty of mulching and soil-moving to be done just across the street the Lincoln Farm.
WHAT TO BRING:
-gloves
-a hat
-your friends, family, and neighbors
-wheelbarrow (if it is easy. . .we’ll have at least 4)
-West County veggies for the omlettes, fruit, snacks, etc.
-mug, plate, and fork for brunch
DONATIONS NEEDED:
-berry bushes (anything EXCEPT the invasive Himalayan blackberry)
-compost
-spent coffee grounds
Please contact me if you plan to attend, have money or materials you wish to donate for the Berryland project, or have other questions or concerns. You may also call me at (510) 691-5051.
