In the Summer of 2012 Urban Tilth began work with County Supervisor John Gioia’s office on developing the North Richmond Farm at the corner of Fred Jackson Way and Brookside Dr. The North Richmond Farm is intended to be not only a source of healthy food, but also a dynamic and vibrant example of urban agriculture, sustainability, education, local history, and entrepreneurship.
The Farm will feature North Richmond’s only daily fresh fruit and vegetable farm stand, a community commercial kitchen, a cafe, an amphitheater, a watershed learning center and a working urban farm providing fresh fruits and vegetables for North Richmond and West County residents.
This, by far, is the most exciting project Urban Tilth has embarked on to date.
Transforming the Farm
After three years of site clean-up, design and California Environmental Quality Act compliance, we are excited to begin Phase I of farm construction in the Fall of 2020!
We will begin construction by installing all of the permanent site utilities (water, electric. gas, sewer, and irrigation), completing site grading, and installing interior roads.
If all goes according to plan, in 2020 we will begin Phase II, building all of our permanent food growing facilities— a permanent greenhouse, tool shed, shade house, watershed education center, the final 80+ trees in our orchard and over 60 new crop rows!
